Research Overview

Undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma is among the most aggressive and least characterized soft-tissue sarcomas, treated with surgery plus radiation when localized and chemotherapy when metastatic. Immunotherapy development has been hampered by the tumor’s heterogeneity, variable antigens, low immune infiltration, and a shortage of patient-derived cell lines for preclinical work.

This study established and characterized JBT19, a new patient-derived UPS cell line. JBT19 cells express PD-L1 and collagen — the latter a ligand for the immune checkpoint molecule LAIR-1 — making the line a resource for studying two checkpoint axes in a sarcoma that has lacked preclinical models.
