Research Overview

Cell therapies are usually delivered as living cells, carrying risks of unwanted migration and unpredictable phenotypes, and single cells are cleared rapidly in vivo. 3D cellular materials could prolong therapeutic effect while providing structural volume.

This study reported manufacturing of shape-versatile fixed cell-based materials with immunomodulatory properties: living cell aggregates in different shapes — spheres and centimeter-long fibers — were fixed by a method that maintained structural integrity, robustness, and flexibility of the constructs, and their biological properties were characterized.
